Koshur Keyboard — Support
A Kashmiri (Koshur) keyboard for iPhone, by the Yimberzol Foundation.
Setting it up
iOS requires you to switch on any third-party keyboard by hand — no app can do it for you.
- Open Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → Add New Keyboard…
- Under Koshur Keyboard, choose Koshur (Perso-Arabic) and/or Koshur Latin
- In any app, tap and hold the 🌐 globe key to switch to it
You do not need to allow Full Access. Koshur Keyboard never asks for it.
Typing guide
Koshur (Perso-Arabic)
- Shift reveals the second set of letters, including ؠ (Kashmiri yeh)
- Diacritics: the key beside the spacebar. Tap it for hamza above (ٔ); press and hold it for the full grid of marks. It opens focused on pesh (ُ) — a quick hold-and-release types pesh, and the inverted-v (ٛ) sits directly beneath it
- Long-press ا for ٲ ا آ أ إ اٟ
- Long-press و for و ۄ ۆ ؤ
- Long-press ن for ن ں

Every one of these is also available by pressing and holding the base letter.
Common questions
Why doesn't the keyboard appear after I install the app? It must be enabled in Settings first — see above. iOS does not allow apps to add keyboards automatically.
Why is there no autocorrect or predictive text? Not yet. A Kashmiri dictionary with autocorrect and word suggestions is planned for a future release — building it well needs a properly checked Koashur word list, which is work in progress.
When it arrives it will run on your device, like the rest of Koshur Keyboard. We do not intend to add anything that would require sending your typing to a server.
Why are there no key click sounds? Keyboard sounds require Full Access on iOS. We chose privacy over sound.
A character shows as a dotted circle or an empty box. The dotted circle (◌) is intentional — it shows where a combining mark attaches. An empty box means the font in that particular app lacks the glyph; try a different app or font.
Does Koshur Keyboard see what I type? It receives keystrokes in order to type them, and does nothing else with them — nothing is stored or sent. It cannot send anything: without Full Access, iOS blocks network access entirely. See the Privacy Policy.
